Examine.com Interview – Luis Villasenor talks about Ketogenic Diets

Luis Villasenor has been interviewed in issue 30 (April 2017) of EXAMINE.com’s Research Digest (ERD). In case you don’t know what EXAMINE.com is, let me tell you that it should be your first stop when researching information about supplements and nutrition, as it is an unbiased source of information that investigates and researches independently so there are no conflicts of interest behind.

Chase Results, Not Ketones

In their myopic “chasing of ketones”, a lot of low carbers have been decieved into chasing ketones, instead of results.

They forget why they even started Keto in the first place, and in most cases, they did so to lose weight (yes, there are other valid approaches such as increased mind focus, treating a neurological illness, etc… but those are not the topic here). You don’t need to “eat fat to burn fat”… even on keto, you still need a negative energy balance.

Fat Bombs / Fat Coffee have become the bane of ketogenic diets.

The correct formula to apply…

HOME GYM SETUP

HOME GYM SETUP

If you want to build your own home / garage gym, you can always shop around for used equipment and deals. But we do recommend that you spend a bit more on quality so that your equipment will last you for years to come: a good bar and plates will last you a lifetime, vs a bad quality one which will rust and bend over the summer.

MUST: BARBELL AND PLATES

While it’s the most important, a barbell is usually easy to find. There are two main barbell types: standard and Olympic. Standard bars are one inch…

Ignorance Is But A Choice

I want to share this quote here, especially with the influx of new people who have just recently joined the various online groups we manage:

“In the age of information, ignorance is a choice” – Donnie Miller

One of the main reasons that got me into nutrition and fitness in the first place, and eventually led me to found Ketogains, was to learn to differentiate between sound, science based nutrition, and “old wives tales” or classic bro’science.

Everybody has seen the recent influx of a number of self called “Keto Trainers” or “Ketogenic Coaches” as well as…

Everybody is worried about Cholesterol. You are; your doctor, your family. Yet few can explain how it actually relates to Cardio Vascular Disease, and what can you do to prevent it. Dave is a senior software engineer and business developer, who began a Low Carb, High Fat diet in April 2015 with the purpose of avoiding diabetes.

Since then, he has learned everything he cans about it with special emphasis on cholesterol given his lipid numbers spiked substantially after going…

HUNGER

Because this has to be said, my shower-thought of the day:

I see a lot of people complaining about “hunger” when dieting – “I’m doing a ketogenic diet… why am I hungry? – I read I should not feel hunger on a ketogenic diet”…

Well, let me tell you: Hunger is not necessarily a bad thing.

Guys & Gals: have we become so “cognitive dissonant” and complacent, that we have forgotten that hunger is, in a way, a natural part of the process of any diet that the main focus is fat loss???

Any diet, be it keto or high…
